The Problem: A Lack of a Universal Language for Smart Spaces
Existing ontologies for smart environments are often too specialized, focusing on a single aspect such as context modeling or interaction in a meeting space. This fragmentation prevents a global and interoperable understanding of complex environments. Many problems, such as describing dynamics or the relative location of objects, remain unsolved.
Our Solution: UnOvi, a Universal Ontology to Describe our World
The UnOvi project aims to develop a universal ontology to overcome current limitations. The objective is to create a model capable of describing both the domains and applications of smart environments, by enriching existing concepts and introducing new fundamental notions like referentiality and environmental change.
The 3 Fundamental Concepts
The Being
Defines living entities (people, animals) through their physical components and their profiles (behavior, preferences, health).
The Environment
Models the space in which a being evolves, distinguishing between tangible elements (objects, furniture) and intangible elements (data, memory capacity).
The Dynamic
Describes all forms of activities, whether human (eating, moving), mechanical (robot), or virtual (software activities).
